The Road to Saigon

32 cars, 27 days: Classic cars go on a journey from Singapore to Saigon

From the Endurance Rally Association – the organisers of the celebratory Peking to Paris Rally in 2007 – comes their latest event, the Road to Saigon, held over 27 days from 4th February to 2nd March 2018. Beginning their journey from Capella Hotel on Sentosa this past Sunday, rally participants will make their way through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, before arriving in Saigon.

With a myriad of activities ranging from regularity tests and speed trials held on a mixture of surfaces such as closed tarmac roads, rice paddy fields, rubber plantations, jungle tracks and dusty gravel, all participants stand an equal chance regardless of the car they’re in.

Participating in the rally are 32 cars spanning a 70-year (!) age range, with the oldest being a 1907 Itala 40, to a 1967 Ford Mustang, with a 1977 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 rounding up the participants list. We popped in on Saturday evening to check out the participants cars in the hotel carpark, ahead of their flag-off.
