Flagship Lexus Arrives In Singapore

BY Azfar Hashim

Lexus's challenger to the S-Class, 7 Series and A8 boasts a radical new design with coupe-like silhouette

The All-New Lexus LS was launched and unveiled by Koichi Suga, the chief designer of the LS, at the Singapore Wine Vault. Into its fifth-generation, the all-new LS flagship sedan reflects a strong, uniquely Japanese identity and approach to luxury. Built on the company’s new global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA–L), first seen in the Lexus LC, the premium rear-wheel drive platform will offer an enhanced dynamic experience on the road.

Introduced back in 1989, the first LS made automotive history as a world-class car from Japan for discerning customers. Not only did the model made its mark by offering the drive performance, quietness and luxury, its unveiling also heralded the birth of the Lexus brand.

And now 29 years later, the all-new Lexus LS is set to repeat history boasting a bold new look with a coupe-like silhouette.

Inside the spacious cabin, luxurious appointments and visionary technology will provide drivers with the luxury experiences, expected from a flagship sedan. Based on the human-centred approach, vehicle functions are located around the driver making it possible to access and control them without changing posture or line of sight - this improves concentration.

“The Lexus LS is the flagship of Lexus that embodies the history and image of the brand, and defines what the brand stands for. As a Japanese luxury brand, we wanted to integrate elements of Japanese culture and the timeless appeal of Japanese craftsmanship into the artistic side of Lexus. At the same time, we wanted to create a car that evokes an emotional response that draws people in from the very first instant. And more than anything else, we want everyone to feel our passion and commitment when they experience the LS,” said Koichi Suga, LS Chief Designer.

The all-new Lexus LS is available in three powertrains: 3.5-litre V6 naturally aspirated engine, all-new 415 bhp 3.5-litre V6 twin turbocharged engine, and 353 bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine with Multi Stage Hybrid System.

Notably, the Lexus LS will be the first model in Singapore to offer the Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+). It extends the range of active systems available to the driver to help mitigate accidents, covering the risks presented by the most common types of accidents.

It operates by combining information from omnidirectional sensors around the vehicle, including stereo cameras, monitoring all operating situations from parking manoeuvres to collision avoidance. 12 airbags come standard.
