Mercedes-Benz unveils the new E-Class Coupé at the Mercedes-Benz Centre

The E-Class family welcomed a new member yesterday evening at the Mercedes-Benz Centre Alexandra, with the launch of the new E-Class Coupé that joins the saloon and Estate.

Unlike its predecessor that was based on the smaller C-Class, the new E-Class Coupé is based on the E-Class saloon, thus offering more space and comfort with the larger footprint. The car has grown 123 mm longer, 74 mm wider and 33 mm taller, resulting in increased rear knee room, shoulder room and headroom.

Being based on the E-Class saloon also means that the Coupé’s interior elements are similar to the sedan, with the exception of turbine blade-inspired air vents for a sporty touch. In the E300 Coupé (optional on the E200 Coupé), drivers get a Widescreen Cockpit that merges two 12.3-inch displays beneath a single lens to produce a panoramic display that appears to float in space. Matching the Widescreen Cockpit is a panoramic sliding sunroof that both front occupants can enjoy.

On the outside, the E300 Coupé gets an AMG Line exterior with chrome-plated radiator grille dots, complemented with MULTIBEAM LED headlamps and two-piece LED tail lamps. These tail lamps have a nifty welcoming function — when you unlock the car, the LEDs sweep outwards; conversely, when you lock the car, the lights run in the opposite direction.

The E-Class Coupé’s sporty looks are accompanied by an equally sporty driving experience, with the AGILITY CONTROL suspension (sitting 15mm lower) and DYNAMIC SELECT system fitted as standard. Adjustable to match the driver’s attitude, DYNAMIC SELECT offers five different modes — Comfort, ECO, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. These allow the driver to alter several settings at once, such as throttle response and transmission shift points for a livelier drive.

The same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine — producing 184 hp and 300 Nm in ‘200’ guise, and 245 hp and 370 Nm in ‘300’ guise — powers both trim levels of the E-Class Coupé. Both models are now available for sale at S$282,888 for the E200, and S$334,888 for the E300, inclusive of COE.
