BY Burnpavement

The inaugural Singapore G1 was officially launched at the Shaw House Amphitheatre on the 4th of September.

Organised by the Singapore Environmental Council (SEC), the Singapore G1 aims to encourage the development and use of green technologies in transportation in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.

Heralded as the 'Green Grand Prix', the Singapore G1 will feature a series of carbon-neutral eco-car races to raise awareness on the environmental impact of urban transportation in relation to climate change. The races include the Soap Box Derby, Buggy Race, Eco-car Race and Trishaw Race.

The launch was officiated by Guest-of-Honour, Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District who arrived at the launch in a convoy led by electric vehicles and cyclists. Dr Teo officially kicked off the Singapore G1 by unveiling a pair of soap box cars which will be making their debut in Asia at the Soap Box Derby during the Singapore G1 on 19th September 2010.

Dr Teo, together with Ms Isabella Loh, Chairman of SEC and Mr Howard Shaw, Executive Director of SEC also made their commitment to a cleaner and greener Singapore, by making a Green Pledge.

The inaugural Singapore G1 will take place on part of the F1 track at the Float@Marina Bay.
