The edgier, lighter, more powerful third generation Audi TT and Audi TTS strut their stuff at their world premieres at the Geneva Motor Show.

Given a harder and sleeker all-new exterior design, the new TT retains similar proportions and dimensions to its predecessor at the same time. There's a mix of straight lines and curvy shapes in the design that combine to give the TT a strong face up front and a significantly tweaked rear end.

The aggressive-looking front end sports an angular grille flanked by new trapezoidal-shaped headlights with a new LED design. Following the R8, the Audi logo has been moved from within the grille to the bonnet’s nose.

At the side, the Audi Tornado line runs through the entire length of the car from the headlights to the tail-lights. The rear has also been revised with an edgier finish - but is still unmistakably an Audi TT.

Built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, the TT’s wheelbase is 37 mm longer than previously, allowing it a slight increase in luggage capacity. For the new TT, many parts including the bonnet, wings, roof, doors and tailgate have been constructed from aluminum. Resulting in kerb weight of only 1230 kg in the entry-level model.

Engine options include a turbocharged 2.0-litre common-rail diesel engine with 184bhp and 380 Nm. The TDI can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 km/h. The 2.0 TFSI is available in two versions — a 230 bhp version and a 310 bhp version for the TTS. The 2.0 TFSI delivers a torque figure of 370 Nm and will go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds. The TTS will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h 5.3 seconds and onto a top speed of 250 km/h!
