Audi has finally arrived in this lucrative market segment: the premium compact sedan. This particular segment, currently occupied by the base BMW 3 Series, the 316i, and Mercedes-Benz's highly popular CLA200, now sees the A3 Sedan competing alongside.

This four-door sedan which shares zero body panels with it's hatchback brethren - except for headlamps, front grill and door handles - will surely attract the younger set, all thanks to the lightweight design (it has a kerb weight of 1,235 kg), proven efficient drivetrain and a high-end infotainment system.

Unlike the BMW and Mercedes-Benz competitors mentioned earlier, here is the A3 Sedan's unique selling point: With it's 122 bhp 1.4-litre TFSI engine, the A3 Sedan perfectly capitalises the revised categorisation of the COE system, going into Category A.

"The launch of the new Audi A3 Sedan is a significant milestone for Audi Singapore, as we enter into the new market segment of compact sedans," said Jeff Mannering, Managing Director of Audi Singapore.

He continued, "With proven performance in selling larger models in the Singapore market, we are venturing into a rapidly growing segment where we aim to develop a sizeable presence."

Although the A3 Sedan will only be officially launched next month, those interested can still view the car at the Audi Centre Singapore. Promotional price starts at $180,550, including COE and after CEVS rebate.
