More fuel economy records for the Jetta and Shell

BY Burnpavement

The Volkswagen Jetta Sport 1.4 TSI proved its impressive efficiency in the real world last weekend, with a record 20.8 km/L achieved at the Shell FuelSave Challenge 2013.

The Shell FuelSave Challenge is a driving competition organised by Shell to educate drivers on fuel-saving and efficient driving methods through various educational pit stops. The winning team of Karrin Lim and Roy Lee on Day One achieved an average fuel efficiency of 20.8 km/L by driving a total distance of 72.3 km with Day Two winners Ferdinand Lai and Annette Phay clocking 20.5 km/L after driving 70.2 km. The winners walked away with S$2,000 worth of Shell fuel vouchers each.

Mr. Ferdinand Lai and Ms. Annette Phay, the winning pair from Day Two of the Challenge, said: “Using the Jetta Sport and driving it for the first time, we are glad to have won this competition. I have been using Shell for the past years as I believe that it gives me the most mileage. The Shell FuelSave tips really came in handy during the Challenge, and I will share these tips with my family and friends.”

With its official combined fuel consumption of 16.6 km/L, the Jetta Sport 1.4 TSI was a natural choice for the Shell FuelSave Challenge. Its 1.4 TSI Twincharger engine with 160 bhp and 240 Nm of torque blends dynamic performance with outstanding fuel efficiency.

Another technologically advanced feature of the Jetta is its 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), which allows rapid and smooth gear changes, while providing fuel consumption that is up to 20 percent less than with a traditional automatic transmission. All this combines to make the Jetta the most fuel efficient car in its class.
